Local Film, GUS DVD Release Party
Saint Louis, MO.

GUS, The documentary film that peers into the life of Downtown Saint Louis legend Gus Torregrossa will be released on DVD and we are celebrating with a party at Mad Art Gallery, Friday, August 15th at 7:30pm

The film will also be available through amazon.com and lacklusterpictures.com

The previously unreleased film by director Daniel Bowers was shot in 2003. Despite screenings in several top tier film festivals, including the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and the Saint Louis International Film Festival, Bowers shelved “GUS” to complete work on another film project A. (anonymous).

Gus Torregrossa is a beloved, mafiaesque figure in the world of hip-hop and the Italian-American Community of St. Louis. During the film’s production, Gus and his store were facing the prospect of being pushed out of the Washington Avenue Garment District due to the redevelopment of the area into upscale lofts, restaurants, and shops.

For 30 years, Gus' Fashions was a stopping point for famous actors, musicians, politicians, professional athletes and journalists. Notable among his clientele were Jamie Foxx, Flava-Flav, Easy E, Kid-n-Play, Tupac Shakur, and Nelly. Gus ran his store with his faithful assistant Jimmy Barton (Vitale), affectionately known as "Jimmy the Midget," whom Gus took under his wing more than 30 years ago.

Celebrate the GUS DVD release on August 15th at Mad Art Gallery, 2727 South 12th St. (12th & Lynch in Soulard)
